Case against Erika Visser (56) charged with R1-million fraud postponed

The case again was postponed to November 28 so that the other accused can get a new legal representative.

THE single mother, Erika Visser (56), who was arrested for fraud to the value of over R1-million on November 28 in 2012 reappeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on October 31.

A man and a woman, who is apparently also involved in the same fraud case, also appeared with her. According to the prosecutor, Johan Olivier, a warrant has been issued to the fourth person involved.

An owner of a cellular shop in Voortrekker Avenue reported the fraud on November 24 in 2012 only 24 hours before the arrest was made. She extracted over R100 000 per month from one of the business accounts and deposited it into a so-called dummy account that was opened in Lenasia under a false name.

When asked about her motives, she claimed that she was helping other families and struggled with her current salary to support her lifestyle. According to one of the owners of the shop she was paid over R20 000 per month. She was the reason that over 80 staff members did not receive their incentives for that year. The owners also had to close their other two shops.

Visser got out on bail in 2012 and her court case has been ongoing for six years. The case again was postponed to November 28 so that the accused number two, the other woman, can get a new legal representative.
