After the owner alerted the tracking company, the company provided the EMPD SWAT Unit with information that led to the stolen car being recovered in Thokoza at 7:40am.

Two EMPD SWAT Unit officers were able to pick up the movement of the car with the assistance of the GPS coordinates, Inspector Schultz and Const Stols located the vehicle in Ngubeni Street, Phenduka Section, Thokoza,” said Chief Supt Wilfred M Kgasago.

The dashboard was found badly damaged. “Seemingly, the thieves were trying to get to the tracker unit with the aim of removing it to avoid detection,” added Kgasago.

After the formalities on the scene, the recovered vehicle was taken to the SAPS pound in Van Ryn Deep, Benoni, for safekeeping and more investigation.
