CPS SECURITY and SAPS have embarked on a joined drive to combat crime.
Over the past two weeks, they had major busts with regards to taking guns and dangerous criminals off the streets.
March successes
• On March 7 three house robbers were arrested by an EMPD SWAT officer with the help of CPS Security in South Crest.
Housebreaking implements, gloves and an unlicensed firearm were found in their vehicle.
All three men were arrested and taken to Alberton SAPS. On further investigation, it was established that these men were involved in several incidents in the East Rand area and were known criminals.
Since the arrests, the incidents in the South Crest area have also decreased drastically.
• Two foreign nationals were arrested on March 17 in Alberton. The vehicle was stopped by CPS Security officers and three firearms were discovered in the vehicle. Two suspects were arrested and two managed to get away. On further investigation, it was established the car had false number plates and was involved in several robberies in Gauteng.
They target Pep and Ackermans stores.
• Brackendowns SAPS and local security companies managed to bust a syndicate house in Alberton on March 27. Unlicensed firearms, ammunition, hijacked motor vehicles and jewellery were discovered. On further investigation, it was established the house belonged to a syndicate involved in several robberies all over Gauteng.
“We work hand in hand with SAPS and urge the public to send us tip-offs regarding crime, such as drugs, firearms etc. We rely on the public to be our eyes and ears as this helps the fight against crime,” said Tyrone van der Merwe, sales director at CPS Security. Information can be sent via their Facebook page, which will stay anonymous, or contact them on 011 024 2426.
“A lot of our successes come from the public and we encourage people to get more involved,” he concluded.
