SHAUN Oosthuizen and John Du Plooy appeared briefly in court via the audio-visual system on April 12 where the matter was postponed due to them needing to be in court to receive documents indicating the case has been moved to the Johannesburg High Court.
They appeared again in Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on April 15 where they were served with the notice of a trial in the high court.
The pair are to face two counts linked to the events on September 1, 2018, at Alberton Village which lead to the death of Barbara Esme Fenton.
The first count is that of murder, where the pair stand accused of murdering Barbara Esme Fenton by strangling her.
The second count is robbery with aggravating circumstances stating the accused are accused of assaulting Fenton to rob her of jewellery and a cell phone.
The matter has been sent to the high court where the pair will be appearing on May 3 for pre-trial arrangements.
The state is planning to call 16 witnesses to testify during the trial and two external witnesses have made themselves available to testify on behalf of the defence.
