Classic 1027 and Caxton – Sharing the joy of music through sponsored content
Art music is a joy and a pleasure for so many South Africans, and Story Studio looks forward to celebrating the genius of a vibrant and ever-expressive musical culture with our readers.

We would like to propose five areas on which to focus when creating branded content for Classic 1027.
- The arpeggios and allegros of classical music appreciation
- The world of contemporary cadences
- The staves and quavers of South African classical artists
- The harmonies of youth and tradition
- Listen to the world’s most beautiful music – advertising Classic 1027
These five areas are designed to retain existing listeners, recapture previous listeners, encourage a new audience with a predisposition to art music, and nurture any budding interest amongst the youth.
The arpeggios and allegros of classical music appreciation

The possibilities for interesting and engaging articles in the music appreciation category are virtually endless. This is certainly the broadest sub-section of the proposal, and also the freest in terms of topic choice.
Given this freedom, we would like to create a wide variety of articles that appeal to an equally wide and diverse audience, beginners and seasoned listeners alike.
Possible concepts include:
- Bach vs Vivaldi vs Pachelbel – The Battle of the Baroque Virtuosos
- Music History 101: The journey from Baroque to Impressionism
- Your weekly opera plots – Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte
- Music History 101: Exploring the world of the post-Romantics
- Sinfonia Eroica – The legendary story behind Beethoven’s Symphony number 3
- The depth of the Russian soul – Russian ballet through the eyes of painters

- Our pick of the top 5 coloraturas in recent history
- The 10 most underrated composers of all time
- Who was the best Queen of the Night? A vocal coach weighs in on the debate
- The first psychedelic musical odyssey – Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique
- John Williams vs Julian Bream – who really played Bach better?
The world of contemporary cadences

Did art music die a terrible death with the advent of 20th century A-Tonal? Fortunately not. Our contemporary art music world is, arguably, as vibrant as any other period in history.
There are so many established and rising stars that a long and highly engaging series of articles could be produced for this topic alone.
The staves and quavers of South African classical artists

From literature, drama, film and the fine arts to contemporary music that incorporates a tapestry of influences, the arts in South Africa are in an incredibly healthy condition.
This is also true of our classical music scene. In this series we would like to explore everything local.
Example concepts include:
- The best South African operatic voices to watch in 2019
- At the grassroots of local art music – South African composers paint a portrait of a bright future
- Where to next for SA opera? An interview with Pretty Yende [if possible]
- Students surpassing the masters – young SA performers every music lover should know about
- Violins and the township – how passionate classical music teachers are finding new talent in underprivileged areas
The harmonies of youth and tradition
Catching the attention of a younger audience, especially in the age of media overload, isn’t an easy task.
We do believe, however, that we could raise awareness of classical music in non-traditional audiences by bridging the divide between pop and classical through the creation of content that includes elements of each genre.
Example concepts:
- Pussycat Dolls front woman and X-Factor judge, Nicole Scherzinger, performs “The Phantom of the Opera” (you’ll be amazed)
- Professional vocal coach analyses Christina Aguilera’s live performances
- Top 10 songs that wouldn’t be the same without an orchestra
- Top 10 rock bands that have performed with philharmonic orchestras
- Top 10 classical pieces every young person should know
- Young composers revolutionising the world of music
- What do House and Classical Music have in common? [“House” is a variety of electronic dance music]
Listen to the world’s most beautiful music – advertising Classic 1027

These articles would be a direct promotion of the station, and could therefore be considered closer to an advertorial format than sponsored content in the strict sense of the term.
Examples:
- Get to know your favourite Classic 1027 DJs
Rather than a single article covering multiple DJ profiles, we suggest a series that allows for an in-depth conversation with presenters, in which they can discuss passions, most loved music, personal journeys, etc.
- Beautiful music, lifestyle chats, business advice and more – Find the best Classic 1027 show for you
This topic could be covered in a single article, but show descriptions would inevitably be extremely brief and superficial at best. With this in mind, it would perhaps be best to divide the articles between music segments and lifestyle/travel/business/people of note/etc.
- Classic 1027’s podcast of the week
A selection of podcasts are uploaded to the Classic 1027 website on a regular basis: these could be redistributed, and perhaps somewhat edited for length, on the Caxton network.
- Classic 1027’s composer of the week – [Isaac Albeniz/Ravel/Prokofiev/Liszt/other interesting luminaries, etc.]
This weekly feature would include a brief biography of the composer, and a representative piece.
Nota Bene
Please note that the above proposal contains suggestions only: input, amendments and guidance from Classic 1027 are welcome. Story Studio will work tirelessly with the station to ensure that all content is of a high quality and aligns with brand identity.
