ALBERTON High School’s mountain bike team took part in the second Spur Gauteng MTB race at Boksburg Stadium on July 13.
The school entered 13 riders into the race who competed in the junior women, junior men, youth 15 and youth 16 categories.
Laps were over a distance of 6.2km and the trails were incredibly dusty and windy, with several specifically engineered jumps.
The required laps ranged from two for the sub-juniors, which increased progressively to five laps for the junior men.
The day ended with a competition for the team member able to balance for the longest period on a stationary bike.
Alberton High’s riders did themselves proud by completing nearly all the required laps and sustaining no serious injuries.
Several of their riders were seeded among the top 50 riders in their respective category.
The next Gauteng South race will take place on August 10 at Avianto in Muldersdrift.
