Two foreign nationals offered EMPD officers more than R1 000 to bribe them to overlook the operation of an unlawful business.

TWO foreign national businessmen were arrested in Palm Ridge for attempting to bribe the metro police on July 30.

While on patrol looking for drug dealers in Palm Ridge, EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) arrested two Pakistani nationals who offered them a bribe of more than R1 000 to overlook the fact that they were operating a business unlawfully.

They business was running within a residential premise from a container on Tritonia Street in Palm Ridge.

“The two suspects’ papers were also found to be shady. Faced with the two offences, the duo decided to offer the DEU members a bribe of R1 530 to evade arrest and were immediately arrested,” Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, the EMPD spokesperson, said.

The men were detained at Eden Park Police Station and charged with bribery as well as in terms of Section 49 of the Immigration Act.
