
The EMPD High Speed Unit (HSU) conducted operations on the R21, N12 and N3 freeways individually on August 9, 11 and 12. During the operations the EMPD HSU arrested 11 suspects for excessive speeding, all of them male.
On August 9 the HSU arrested five drivers in sedans on the R21 between Griffits Road and the N12 exit. The suspects aged between 26 and 40 were nabbed for doing speeds between 141km/h and 186k/h in a 100km/h zone.
Between 7am and 8.30am on August 10 three suspects were arrested on the N12 westbound between Sam Green bridge and the Germiston exit. The suspects were doing 163km/h, 164km and 186km/h respectively.
During the operations on August 11 on the N3 southbound and on the R59 southbound three motorists were arrested for doing 162km/h, 167km/h and 185km/h.
The speedsters were all released on R1000 bail after being charged with reckless and negligent driving. They are expected to appear in their respective courts.
