AFRIFORUM’s Alberton neighbourhood watch found a vehicle that was hijacked on August 28 after a request for support came in at around 10pm.
The vehicle was found in cooperation with the Kathlehong North SAPS, Alberton’s SAPS, the local community policing forum and various other security institutions.
According to information gathered on the scene, two armed robbers hijacked the victim’s Opel Corsa bakkie.
The victim, who was taken to hospital, had reportedly been hit over the head with a hammer and firearm.
The information received pointed to the suspects fleeing in the direction of the Kathlehong informal settlement.
AfriForum’s neighbourhood watch then contacted three SAPS members in Katlehong North, who immediately provided support.
The neighbourhood watch members and the SAPS searched the area and found the deserted vehicle about an hour later on the side of the road.
No suspects were found on the scene. The scene was handed over to the SAPS and the vehicle was removed.
“We are proud to have been part of so many role-players who work together to safeguard Alberton.
“It is only through cooperation that it is possible to curb crime,” said Louis van Aswegen, chairperson of AfriForum’s Alberton neighbourhood watch.
