ALBERTON – The principal and teachers share their comments with the community after Ekurhuleni South District presented Alberton High with the award for the Top Academic School of 2013.
Principal Minnie: “I am very proud of our school being the top academic school and one of our top learners being a top student. I thank all the staff who were dedicated in their work.”
Principal Minnie’s strategy is to eliminate failure and promote success.
This is what the teachers had to say for being awarded top teacher out of the Ekurhuleni district:
First place Physical Science H.O.D. educator Kqwadi Mojapelo: “It is like a dream come true. I was over the moon. It is a lifetime achievement. I have never received an award teaching since 1991. I taught mathematics and science but never received an award as such. I will never forget this. To the students I say: Study hard, listen to your teachers and don’t take anything for granted. Take your work serious and you will achieve.”
Accounting and first place award winning educator Natasha Le Grange: “I am over the moon. It is something you always strive towards, to get good results. Accounting is consistent work and it is not something you can study a day before an exam. To the students, you have to consistently work until it becomes second nature.”
First place for Hospitality studies, educator Thia Faia: “I feel honoured and proud of the students. It has given me more confidence and motivated me to work even harder. To the students: Do what you do to the best of your ability.”
Head of English educator and first place award Lyn Ferreira: “I am very proud of my department. It shows that the team effort over the years has really paid off. It is a group effort. It is the peak of more than twenty years. It is my 20th year at Alberton High and it really is the ultimate award. To the students: The mind is an incredible tool and if you tell yourself you can, then anything is possible.”
Best English Educator (home language) Natasha Swanepoel: “I feel honoured. English is a very difficult subject for a group of matrics to excell in, as for many learners English is their second language. It is so inspiring that after so many years of determination and hard work, we are reaping the benefits. As for the students, with self-discipline and motivation, you can accomplish anything.”
Leigh-Ann Guy on behalf of Biology first place educator, Jaqui Potgieter: “To see what they had done at the Civic Centre, it inspired me to strive and work towards that for myself.
“I never realised that there were that many schools in our district. Don’t involve yourself in something that you will not pursue for the future, have a genuine passion for the subject in order to progress with it fully.”
