RANDBURG – Family, friends and bikers supporting the motorcyclist who died during a road rage incident in Gauteng on Valentine’s Day have slated the criminal justice system after the accused was granted bail of R5 000.
Motorcyclist Douglas Pearce was shot dead on Friday morning after an altercation with motorist Meeka Masooa on Malibongwe Drive during peak hour traffic.
According to Eyewitness News (EWN), “Pearce’s devastated brother shouted from the public gallery, screaming the word ‘murderer’ shortly after Masooa was granted bail.”
The family and bikers in the community were furious, saying bail of R5 000 isn’t enough for a man accused of murder.
According to biker Sean Kedich, the family are very confused.
“If a man’s life is worth R5 000 there is really no hope for us,” Kedich was reported to have expressed his frustration.
In Masooa’s affidavit, the labour law consultant and father stated that he never intended to shot Pearce, but had to protect his own life.
The accused claims Pearce showed him the middle finger, and swore at him before pointing a firearm at him.
Both men were in possession of firearms.
Pearce (39) died on the scene.
Masooa will be back in court in April.

Not acceptable, in my opinion he pulled the trigger out of anger, I highly doubt that his life was in danger whatsoever!! He may have received a slap or a punch though (not sure), and I also believe there was a reason for that. I have never heard of a biker pulling someone off the road for no reason, Masooa obviously put Pearce’s life in danger through bad and inconsiderate driving, as motorists often do!! I sure hope that justice will prevail here, a life is worth much more than R5k bail.. Masooa must not get away with this, and should he get off, I hope the biking community will step in!! Make an example of this murderer! People with gun licenses should know the laws, YOU MAY ONLY PULL THE TRIGGER WHEN YOUR LIFE IS IN DANGER, NOT TO SETTLE A SCORE IN A ROAD RAGE PUNCH UP!!!!!!!
