WATCH: Alberton High hosts online summer sports awards

With the coronavirus and the country’s lockdown making public gatherings impossible, Alberton High School has resorted to hosting their annual Summer Sports Awards online.

With the coronavirus and the country’s lockdown making public gatherings impossible, Alberton High School has resorted to hosting their annual Summer Sports Awards online.

The school worked together to put up an online version of their awards, which were posted on Facebook on May 12.

The awards recognise the achievements of their athletes over the 2019 to 2020 summer sporting codes. They announced the recipients of white, silver and gold certificates, scrolls and colours.

This includes trophies for excellence in mountain biking, softball, basketball, cross country, cricket, touch rugby and athletics.

In the video, teachers took turns in announcing awardees and congratulating them for their commitment in participation. In the video, Jannie Olivier, principal of the school, congratulated all participants for the work done and for excellently representing the school.

“In this award ceremony, you don’t need to be the best but by participating shows your character and determination as a human being. I want to reiterate, you’re actually doing it for yourself. You’ll one day give account of your talents. Well done everyone for your achievement and hardships,” he said.

During his talk, he said acknowledging learners through the online platform did not make the ceremony any less special.

Special thanks

The school thanks F Swanepoel, the sports director, for overseeing the awards ceremony, together with his team. Z von Platen for compiling the awards lists for the coaches and B Olivier for the compilation and editing of the video presentation.
