Facebook post reunites a family

One of Deon’s aunts posted an old photo of him and his brother and asked for the assistance of the online community to reunite the little boys in the picture with his family.

ALBERTON – After the police notified the press about the good news of the man, who was lost for 18 years and has now been reunited with his family, the RECORD made contact with his mother.

In a telephonic interview she talks about how social media helped her track down her son.

Her sister, Kristien, posted an old photo of her two boys, Deon and Andries, who she has not had contact with for the past 18 years. The post explained that they have not seen these boys and she asked for assistance.

An employee of Alberton SAPS saw the post and linked one of the boys on the photo as Deon, who has been living on the streets of Alberton for more or less a year now.

Between family members and the Alberton SAPS, Deon was reunited with his mother.

They have a lot of catching up to do, but so far Lindie, Deon’s mother, explains how it happened that she lost contact with her two boys.

Deon and his brother were in the temporary care of his grandmother, when she and their father were going through a divorce. She tried time and time again to make contact with them, but every time they tried to contact the grandmother, she moved again without letting them know.

During this time their father passed away in a motorcycle accident, and the family members they were living with told them that all their family members have passed away.

The two brothers also spent some time in a children’s home.

Deon is now with his mother in Krugersdorp, They are still looking for Andries.
