Work in progress to restore Alrode electricity

Work to repair damages to two transformers at an electricity substation in Alrode, Alberton continues.

THOKOZA – This is the fourth day that technicians are working to repair damage caused by theft at the facility in the early hours of Friday morning, April 24, causing a power outage to Alrode as well as the hostels, Basothong, Mpilisweni and Phenduka sections in Thokoza.

On Sunday night, April 26 the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality supplied power to the affected areas in Thokoza from one of the transformers at the substation, which was not damaged.

From 07:00 the Metro has once again begun to supply power on a three-hour rotational cycle to these areas in order to equitably share the available electricity capacity.

Residents and businesses are assured that the technicians will continue to work around the clock until is fully restored to all areas.

The municipality wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused by the outage.
