Three suspects arrested after illegal cigarette raid

ALBERTON – Three male suspects have been arrested at a supermarket in Alberton, on Tuesday, June 30, after Germiston EMPD Crime Prevention Unit members raided the shop and found 44 cartons of illegal cigarettes. The raid took place in Van Riebeeck Street.

The cache of illegal cigarettes comprised of different brands and was estimated to be worth R27 000. The suspects, who were detained, were three Bangladeshi nationals, aged 20, 30, and 31 years old. They were charged with possession of illicit cigarettes and they appeared in Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, July 1.
