Sixteen suspects arrested

A stolen motorbike was also recovered by the police and handed over to the lawful owner.

ALBERTON — Sixteen suspects were arrested by the Alberton Police during their normal crime prevention duties in late August.

Sergeant Phora Nkuna, a police spokesperson, said these duties were conducted in conjunction with sector members, the East Rand Flying Squad and police detectives.

“Three suspects were arrested in Sector 3 after Flying Squad members stopped and searched them and found dagga in their possession. One person was also in possession of a motor vehicle, believed to have been stolen in Midrand.”

Another suspect was also arrested for allegedly stealing copper cables.

“The police confiscated the loot,” Nkuna said.

The remaining suspects were arrested for several offences which include theft, shoplifting, assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm, malicious damage to property, fraud and Crimen Injuria.

A stolen motorbike was also recovered by the police and handed over to the lawful owner.

All the suspects have made a brief appearance in the Palmridge and Germiston Magistrate Courts.
