ALBERTON – Alberton Police are warning people to refrain from walking with their valuables in clear sight.
Sergeant Phora Nkuna, a police spokesperson, said this comes after a rise in cellphone robberies.
According to information obtained by police, there are two armed men going around Sector 3, Rondebult, Phumula and Leondale, and they are robbing people of cellphones and money.
“The suspects are taking items from unsuspecting people and school children during the day and at night they rob spaza shops and hijack vehicles. The community is warned not to confront the suspects as they are armed and dangerous.”
According to Nkuna, two cars were recently hijacked on the same day, at the same time, in Camelthorn Street in Leondale, and later recovered in Katlehong and Zonkizizwe respectively.
Nkuna also advises people to not park in dark areas at night and to be aware of their surroundings.
The police are requesting anyone with information about the robbers to call 071 675 6871 or 011 861 6800.
